WHAT IS GOD LOOKING FOR?

He is looking for men and women whose hearts are completely His–completely.

He is certainly not looking for perfect people, since there are none.

But He is searching for men and women with these three specific things (taken directly out of Chuck Swindoll’s book David: A Man of Passion and Destiny)

I. Spirituality

A person whose life is in harmony with the LORD. What is important to Him is important to you. What burdens Him burdens you. When He says, “Go to the right,” you go to the right. When He says. “Stop that in your life,” you stop it. When He says, “This is wrong and I want you to change,” you come to terms with it because you have a heart for God. That’s bottom-line biblical Christianity.

That means there are no locked closets. Nothing is being swept under the rug. That means that when you do wrong, you admit it and immediately come to terms with it. You’re grieved over wrong. You’re concerned about those things that displease Him. You long to please Him in your actions, you care about the motivations behind your actions. When you are deeply spiritual, you have a heart that is sensitive to the things of God. You reverence and honor His great name. You esteem Him highly. You are fully submitted to Him. Nothing about His presence is a mere joke. And you are intimately acquainted with His ways.

II. Humility

God had been on a secret surveillance mission in Jesse’s home. Jesse didn’t know God was there. Nobody did. “That’s my man!” God had found what He was looking for. God saw just the type of man he was after. He was young, but he was right. He was humble. And God saw a servant’s heart.

It’s as if God says, “I don’t care about all that slick public image business. Show me a person who has the character, and I’ll give him all the image he needs. I don’t require a certain temperament, I don’t care if he has a a lot of charisma, I don’t care about height, or an impressive track record. I care about character! First, is the person deeply authentic in his or her spiritual walk or is he faking it? and second, is he or she a servant? Serving faithfully. That was David. Keeping his father’s sheep.

III. Integrity

God is looking for honest-to-the-core servants who have integrity. It means being bone-deep honest. Today we live in a world that says, in many ways, “If you just make a good impression, that’s all that matters.” But you will never get anywhere with God with such pretenses. Never. You cannot fake it with the Almighty. He is not impressed with externals. He always focuses on the inward qualities… those things that take time and discipline to cultivate.

Our world is desperately in need of models worth following. Authentic heroes. People of integrity, whose lives inspire us to do better, to climb higher, to stand taller. This has always been true. And today as I write this, how I know this to be what our world has so grievously lost. O’ how heaven searches in this very hour for men and women after God’s own heart.

The searching eye of the Living God is keenly moving to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His… (2 Chronicles 16:9) (emphasis added)

For HIS glory!

Journey well.
